Turning this premise into the final product was a long process. It all started with the realization of an initial concept in graphic lines and shapes, found precisely in the lotus flower, whose symbolic value has been recognized by many cultures since ancient times. In Vedic India it represents purity and beauty (the seventh chakra and one of the fundamental positions of yoga practice refer to the lotus), in ancient Egypt rebirth is added to these, in Japan, in particular, the lotus has always expressed the concepts elegance and simplicity as well as purity and beauty.
Developing the prototype concept has fully engaged all departments of the company. The challenge was not easy due to the great symbolic and graphic value of the lotus flower on a global level, which has always been a source of inspiration in the world of design. The certainly ambitious goal was to express this great value in an original way in the context of Made in Italy and above all in the context of Gaia’s typical Tuscan spirit, all seasoned with a pinch of nostalgia for the carefree 60s.
The particular period of the COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly influenced the project, born during the months of lockdown. The desire to focus attention on something else, on something as beautiful and “light” as a flower, on a historical phase such as that of the economic and cultural boom, veiled in the gold of the company’s “childhood memories” were the ground in which the idea of creating a new collection sprouted. The whole process has kept the spirit of cohesion and collaboration of the Gaia team strong and has given the right energy and enthusiasm to prepare for the full resumption of activity in the following months.
The structure of all the furnishings of the Loto collection is made of rod with a thin diameter and has delicate and rounded shapes that express a feeling of lightness and elegance without losing strength. The colors of the metal and fabrics play with new colors tailored to the concept, simple but of great visual impact. The result is a collection that comes out of the classic Gaia canons while always maintaining purity of shapes and refinement.
