Arranging a garden or terrace with plants, flowers, furniture or structures is a common desire today with many and achievable without great difficulty a pact to have an idea and areas of adequate size, from a few square meters to many thousands.
So let’s start the first step of a path developed in several articles which does not pretend to be simple but simply to help you find your way in that vast and beautiful world that the term Giardino contains.
The etymology of the modern word derives from the French jardin (“closed place”) XII century, once derived from the Gothic gart (“enclosure”) and from the medieval Latin gardinium, X century. Treccani the specified “Land, mostly walled, fenced or erased, cultivated with ornamental and floriferous plants, intended for recreation and walking; it can be private, adjacent to a villa or dwelling house, or public, inside or on the outskirts of inhabited centers “.
The garden has origins that are lost in the mists of time and arise from the innate need of the human being to have direct contact with greenery and nature, and not only for food purposes. Each ancient civilization has in fact declined it according to its own point of view and with precise meanings and styles that in many cases, even with subsequent evolutions, have reached today. In fact, if you want to find inspiration in setting up your own garden, there are so many types that you need to provide a minimum of historical framework that helps you understand its peculiarities.
We begin to talk about gardens properly so called in Egypt where they are considered essential in the most sumptuous houses (places of beauty and enchantment where to walk and amaze guests) and in temples (places of worship with a deep religious significance). In the Persian world, we speak of Giardini Paradiso. Outbuildings of the royal palaces an attempt was made to create a representation of the universe in them, with woods full of animals in freedom (royal hunting reserve), flower beds, canals and monumental works. They were often torn from the desert with imposing engineering and irrigation works probably inspired by the famous Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
