The steel in the atmosphere undergoes spontaneous and irreversible degradation caused by the aggressiveness of the exposure environment. Corrosion involves a progressive reduction of the properties of the material, which if it concerns, for example, load-bearing structures, manifests itself in the gradual decrease in mechanical strength and sustainable loads for the reduction of resistant sections.
Hot dip galvanizing is a surface coating process whose purpose is to protect steel from corrosion using the properties of zinc. The coating is obtained by immersion in molten zinc at around 450 °C and is able to guarantee two-fold protection: passive type, because it physically separates the steel surface from aggressive agents with the simple barrier effect and active type, because zinc operates a cathodic protection against iron due to the difference in electrochemical potential between metals.
For this reason Gaia hot zincs all her creatures, preserving them for decades from the aggressiveness of rust and guaranteeing all her products. Our intervention is not limited to the galvanizing of products only; after this procedure, every piece of furniture or component of a structure is carefully cleaned by a highly skilled craftsman, every small form of impurity or residue due to the galvanization itself is removed, for a visually impeccable result. It is painstaking work that takes care of the product and protects it over time.
